India’s largest car makerMaruti Suzuki India (MSI) on 13 May 2014 announced that its compact car Alto has become the second model from the company’s portfolio to cross the 25 lakh (2.5 million) unit sales mark in the domestic market.The only other car to achieve this feat was the legendary Maruti 800 – the very first car from Maruti Suzuki stable. However, the production of Maruti 800 was stopped in January 2014 by MSI.About AltoAlto was launched in September 2000 and took less than 14 years to achieve the 25 lakh milestone, which is the fastest by any brand. Besides, the company has exported over 2.85 lakh units of the compact car.The Alto range now has eight variants, with prices starting at Rs. 2.41 lakh. The company then introduced a 1,000-cc version of the car, the Alto K10, in August 2010.Alto had achieved the one lakh mark in just 124 days of its launch. During 2006 Alto became the largest selling car in India and had achieved the 10 lakh (1 million) sales mark during January 2008.
